The Varsity Match is delighted to announce the four winners of a competition for schools to win a rugby skills coaching session with England Head Coach Eddie Jones.

The winning schools are Baxter College in Kidderminster, Worcestershire; Passmores Academy in Harlow, Essex; Sawston Village College in Cambridge; and Sunbury Manor in Sunbury on Thames, Middlesex.

The Varsity Match is committed to inspiring the future generation of rugby players, and each private session will give the young competition winners a taste of the national team’s approach to the game.

Commenting on the initiative, England Head Coach Eddie Jones said: “The Varsity Match is always a great occasion at Twickenham and I’m looking forward to seeing the lucky schools competition winners.”

The Varsity Match Co-ordinator Jeremy Macklin added: “We are delighted to be able to offer such an opportunity to schools from very diverse backgrounds.

“The Varsity Match is often the first time school children get to visit the home of England rugby and this will make an extra special day for those taking part in the training sessions with the national team coach.”

The sessions will be held in-between the annual clashes of high performance rugby from both men’s and women’s Oxford and Cambridge Blues, which will once again take place at Twickenham.

Baxter College’s Chris Mann said: “Baxter College is delighted to have such a wonderful opportunity to be coached by Eddie Jones. Our pupils will make the most of it, and it will help enormously to develop and increase the popularity of the game in school and in the local community. It shows what a truly inclusive sport rugby is.”

Passmores Academy PE teacher, Jack Elston said: “This is such an amazing opportunity for the pupils of Passmores Academy. This trip has run every year for the past 9 years at Passmores and the pupils love it.

“For the lucky pupils that will get to train with the England head coach Eddie Jones, it just got a whole lot better. I must say I am extremely jealous of them!”

Sawston Village College Head of PE, Alan Sutton added: “Our boys are extremely excited to meet and to learn lots from a coach of this stature who is doing amazing things with the England team.”
