It was honours even this past weekend, in what was a fantastic Grange Road double-header between OURFC and CURUFC, with OURFC U20s and CURUFC Tigers taking home victories in hard fought contests as part of a fantastic Varsity series, which saw great support from students and alumni alike.
In the early kick off between OURFC U20s and their CURUFC counterparts, it was the Dark Blues who came out on top, finishing 22-19 victors in a physical battle.
OURFC started strong and were 12 points ahead after 30 minutes before CURUFC closed the gap just before half-time with a try.
CURUFC brought the momentum back out with them for the second half scoring a try just two minutes in to level the scores. However, despite CURUFC taking the lead late in the game, OURFC fought back with an inspired last ten minutes in which they scored a converted try to take home the win.
Following the U20s facing off, the CURUFC Tigers looked to avenge the earlier Cambridge loss when they took on the OURFC Panthers in what was a dramatic encounter, with the match referee succumbing to a game ending injury just eight minutes in. With the match looking as if it would be postponed, Queens College Cambridge Development Director Rowan Kitt stepped in to take over for the remainder of the contest. With international experience as a Television Match Official, Kitt ensured that both teams were in good hands as they continued to battle it out.
Once the game got back underway, the CURUFC Tigers strung together some fine attacking rugby and, despite strong resistance, eventually beat the very spirited Panthers squad 30-0.
