Charlie Amesbury moves back to full back from centre for Cambridge University’s home clash with Coventry at Grange Road on Wednesday, 9 November (KO 7.45pm).
The Midlands are getting a double dose of Cambridge rugby this week as they host the town team in National League 1 at the weekend. The last time the two sides met, in 2014, Harry Peck’s men won 27-3.
This year’s Light Blues skipper, Daniel Dass, will be hoping his team can build on the commendable performance against Northampton Wanderers and the home win over Crawshay’s Welsh XV last time out.
Bristol Rugby star Amesbury moved into the midfield for the 30-19 triumph over the Welsh invitation club, the second victory of the campaign to date, but switches to his more customary role at full back to allow Rory Triniman to team up with Michael Phillips at centre.
The 31-year-old Richard Bartholomew continues in the back row as he pursues a fifth Blue. He has three wins to his credit already over Oxford, in 2005, 2006 and 2007, but was on the losing side in 2014 after returning to follow a three year course studying for a Phd in Photonic Engineering at Jesus College.
He will be one of six Blues in the starting XV, with Lola Erogbogbo on the bench. Lola’s twin brother, Lare, appears on the wing as he attempts to win a place at Twickenham this season.
The 135th Varsity Match and the 30th Women’s Varsity Match between Oxford and Cambridge will return to Twickenham on Thursday 8th December, with tickets on sale now.
