Alex Travers has already had one crack at Cambridge this year and now she is preparing for another at the Mattioli Wood Welford Road Stadium on Sunday, 4 July.

It was first blood to Oxford’s Travers in the opening encounter, when she led the Oxford Women’s T20 team to victory in the cricket Varsity Match at Fenners on 20 May. Her opening partnership of 123 with skipper Vanessa Picker saw the Dark Blues through to a 25 run victory.

Travers, who has played for Surrey Woman and was included in the England Academy, scored 81 runs off 54 balls to play a starring role in the triumph. But even though cricket is normally the game of choice for her during the summer months, she will be putting down her bat this weekend and pulling on rugby kit to take part in the Varsity Match in Leicester.

Travers will be lining up in the back row for the Dark Blues as she seeks to go 2-0 up in her private series against Cambridge.
