In the second of our #varsitymatchmemories video series with Old Blues, Alastair Hignell, former Cambridge Blue (1974-77 – Captain 1977), England International and Broadcaster talks us through his finest memories of The Varsity Match and life at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge University.

Alastair Hignell played in the 1974, 1975 and 1976 Varsity Matches before captaining the Light Blues in his final Varsity Match in 1977. He went on to play for England 14 times between 1975 and 1979, scoring 48 points. After his playing career, Hignell enjoyed a successful career as a rugby broadcaster.

Over the coming weeks, we will continue to bring you further #varsitymatchmemories videos of former Blues from both Oxford and Cambridge.

You can join Alastair at this year’s Varsity Match on Thursday 8 December 2016. Tickets are available now, alongside tickets for the Blues Village and a range of hospitality options.
